In Japan, the beginning of winter is announced by Daurian Redstart. Maybe I will write an article about that species because Daurian is one of my favorite species. Today's theme of this article is Northern Pintail. Pintails are winter visitor in Japan. This individual is adult female, judged from upper-parts. Can you image "psedo-foraging"? This was my first time observing the behavior.
I defined this behavior as "Psedo-foraging". It was very interesting. First I thought she only did shaking bill, but she did like "Dabbling". It is not easy to say why this behavior evolved. Probably this behavior makes an individual relax. It was reported that the stress from surrounding environments are not adaptive for an individual of avian species. Migration and foraging in crowded place gives a lot of stress to Pintail. To conclusion, Pintail also wanna run away from "Bitter truth".
