And today, I could see definitely 1Y male. This pic is Ad male individual 1. Typical Ad male. This individual has wide throat white patch.
ウミアイサ成鳥♂ (Mergus serrator) Ad male Red-brested marganser 150401 Chiba
Ad male individual 2. I think this individual is Ad male, too. How do you think? Primary and tertials are looks like the Ad's them. Today, I saw 5 Ad male type and whole 20 individuals! Margansers were looks like relaxing. They foraged about 2 hours in this pool. Finally, a man has big camera walked to this pool and took photos. Result in that they flew away.
ウミアイサ成鳥♀ (Mergus serrator) Ad female Red-brested marganser 150322 Hokkaido
Ad female individual 1. Typical form of this species. Primary exhibits black without any brown. 2 Teltials exhibits pale color. Strinking white of wing is secondary color. I think any female exhibits articulate white in tertials. Iris reddish brown. This color resembling the one of bill.
ウミアイサ成鳥♀？ (Mergus serrator) Ad female Red-brested marganser 150401 chiba
Ad female individual 2. Do you know why I posted pic was taken in last month? The reason is simple. Today's Ad female pic are so poor... This individual exhibit some gray. Both right and left two-tertials exhibit white. Iris reddish tone. Above features are observed in field but in this pic, exhibiting white of both tertials are limited each one. So become anxious.
ウミアイサ成鳥♀ (Mergus serrator) Ad Red-brested marganser 150401 chiba
Ad female individual 3. I think imm doesn't exhibit some black in face. This individual's face is pele. Head exhibit brown. Running on wetland hard. It is funny that Gulls and Plovers are don't react such big bird running!!
ウミアイサ一齢♂ (Mergus serrator) 1Y male Red-brested marganser 150401 chiba
First year male individual 1. Too white tertials for female. I observed like this in Hokkaido. it is difficult to determine the kind of feathers. iris brown and wing tip exhibit some brown tone. If there were any imm feature, I judged senile Ad female. First year female does not exhibit such strong-white tertials.
ウミアイサ一齢?♂ (Mergus serrator) 1Y male Red-brested marganser 150401 chiba
First year female individual 1. clest short. Head brown. WIng tip exhibit brown tone so I though these are old feathers. Body feather exhibit some gray tone. Imm don't exhibit some black in face. why??? I can't image the reason.
First year female individual 3. Aged by primarys, tertials and clest. However, Iris reddish-brown. The reddish tone is strong. I think this individual is first year, but there is no enough confidences.
First year female individual 4. Aged by iris and clest. but there is no enough confidences, too. She bewared me. Too closed is her fault!! This article is aimed at ageing, and I'm sleepy. So Omit about ethology. Today, I was spoken by a man and he tell me that he read may blog. It was so happy!!
Age unknown. Characterized facial pattern. A little cute. I judged as Ad in field, but the wing tip exhibit no brown tone. Teltials exhibit no white. Tails are all new. The wing tip exhibit some brown tone dependent on angle. Perhaps I white some wrong information in this article. If you have some question or have opinion, please comment or sending reply by twitter.
